The “mountaineer’s route” to Strawberry Peak was one of my favorite trails in the Angeles, but even the long way from Red Box near Mount Lawlor was a beautiful trail in its own right.
Sadly, this area was heavily damaged by last year’s Station Fire and remains off-limits for hikers. But repairs are underway.
If you’ve got time this Saturday, October 9, the Angeles Forest Restoration project and Sierra Club are organizing repair crews for a section of the Strawberry Peak Trail near Red Box Station, and they could use your help.
Trail building events like this are usually over by 3PM. Tools and instructions will be provided, but you should provide your own lunch and water. Boots, gloves, long-sleeved shirts and pants are mandatory. If you’re interested in helping out, please contact one of the three leaders ASAP (they usually like a week ahead of time).
