Photo Friday – September 12, 2014

Dear readers – you all are great!

We’re getting tons of submissions for our Photo Friday contests these days and I have to say that getting to look through them is quickly becoming a favorite part of my week.

I wanted to try something new, so in addition to this week’s four winners getting a discount code from our good friends at Sierra Trading Post, we’re now also going to feature one photo each week on the homepage of Modern Hiker itself!

I decided to kick off that new tradition this week with this entry from candicexlee. This tree framed by beautiful California buckwheat was spotted on a morning hike in Temescal Canyon – which we also think is one of the Best Hikes in Los Angeles!

Yosemite National Park is having some smoky skies right now as firefighters work hard to get the Meadow Fire under control. We’re hoping for the best for the firefighters and the Park, and that the skies can get back to looking as nice as they do in Gotcrampons‘ gorgeous shot of Cathedral Lake.

Hallieandbug decided to try to escape our current heat wave by finding shade under the Ewoldsen Trail‘s coastal redwood trees.

And finally, awaterslideaway has some very sharp eyes, because he spotted this frog on a recent hike to Sturtevant Falls in Santa Anita Canyon.

Thanks again to everyone who keeps submitting photos! Remember, you can tag your photos on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #modernhiker or submit via our Flickr Group. If you’re lucky, you may see your shot on the homepage, too!
