Here at Modern Hiker, we love the desert – and one of our favorite places is the Anza-Borrego Desert northeast of San Diego. Not only does it have an incredibly varied landscape, beautiful wildflower displays in the spring, and the weird human history you’d expect from a remote desert, but it’s also just a wonderful place to explore. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the second largest state park in the country – and it has no fees for entry or for dispersed camping, which you can do just about anywhere in the park’s 916 square miles.
Much of the heavy lifting of taking care of the park is done by the Anza-Borrego Foundation, and we are thrilled to announce that our San Diego / Orange County Impresario Scott Turner will be leading a hike with the Foundation on Saturday, November 22.
Part of the Foundation’s popular Hikes & Hops series, where a fun group hike is capped off with some cold beers from a local brewery. Scott will be leading a hike to Mountain Palm Springs to show off the oasis’s native palms and rare elephant trees before trekking to the nearby Torote Bowl for killer views of the Carrizo Badlands.
This event does require a ticket ($15 or $10 for Anza Borrego Foundation Members), which can be purchased on the Hikes & Hops Event Page or by calling Ashley at 760-767-0446, extension 1003 from 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday.
We hope to do more events like this in L.A. the future, but we’d love to have you on board for our first official Hikes & Hops. Who knows, maybe I’ll even bring some Modern Hiker stickers for people!
