downed tree near Griffith Park - Tony Pierce / KPCC

Well, I guess we can add ‘wind’ to the list of otherwise normal weather events that Los Angeles isn’t designed to withstand – last night’s Santa Ana Winds damaged power lines, trees, and property last night – causing damage across L.A. County and leaving more than 200,000 homes without power.

If that weren’t enough, today officials have ordered Griffith Park temporarily closed, due to the damage done by fallen trees and the elevated fire hazard from downed power lines and high winds.

No word yet on when city officials plan to re-open Griffith Park, but high winds are expected to continue into the early weekend.
