Welcome to the Brand New Modern Hiker

Well, we’re finally here. After many, many long hours of rewriting and revising on my end and some truly tireless and excellent work from my developer Laura, the brand new Modern Hiker is up and running!

I hope you find the site as clean and snazzy as I do. Almost every single corner of this domain has been revised and polished, so I encourage you to poke around.

Trails

All the trail info can still be found by clicking on the FIND A TRAIL menu link, but if you already know where you want to hike you can see a drop-down of all the different regions we cover. Each one will take you to a dedicated sub-page that will let you sort all the trails by name, distance, elevation, difficulty, and best season.

I’ve also gone through every single one of my hike write ups to check for accuracy and update relevant information. You’ll also notice that the write-ups themselves have a lot more visual information up front, as well as embiggened photos for your viewing pleasure.

The Best Hikes

I’ve refreshed my Best Hikes in L.A. page, with my 5 favorite hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains, Angeles National Forest, and our more urban City, State, and County Parks. I’ve also updated a list of my 5 Best Hikes for Beginners and will be adding more as the site continues to grow.

Stuff!

If you’ve been following the Modern Hiker Instagram you’ve seen me snapping photos of some awesome 3″ weatherproof vinyl stickers. Well, now you can get your hands on them, too – along with organic cotton tees, tank tops, and hoodies and synthetic wicking shirts, too! Pick up some Modern Hiker gear to support the site at the SHOP section – and be sure to send us a photo of you enjoying the gear on your next hiking or camping trip!

In addition, you can also pick up some of my favorite hiking guide books, maps, and novels from Amazon. Everything you buy helps keep this site up and running!

Writing

I’ve started to do some longer form writing for the site, and I’m going to collect this in the FEATURES section from now on. Right now, I have my stories about the recent Columbia OmniGames in Park City along with some of the essays I’ve been writing for the Sierra Trading Post Hub.

Soon I’ll also have some contributions from other writers, photographers, and adventurers, too! If you’ve got something you want to pitch, drop us a line.

I am thrilled to be able to take this site to the next level and have some really fun ideas for where to take it next. I want to thank you for reading and supporting Modern Hiker over the past 7 years. If you’ve enjoyed what you found here, please tell your friends and stick around – this trail just got started!
