If you’re not busy dodging those scattered showers on a hike this weekend, there are a few opportunities for you to learn about our local forests … and give a bit back, too.

On Saturday at the Ranch at Franklin Canyon Park, a naturalist will lead a group walk at 10AM, discussing the interaction between birds, plants, and insects in the Santa Monica Mountains. They recommend you bring some binoculars and a magnifying glass. Call 310-858-7272 ex. 131 for reservations.

On Sunday, join the TreePeople as they plant 500 native pine seedlings in the Angeles National Forest from 10AM to 1PM. Our forests can use the help. For more info, contact Lisa at (818) 623-4879 or email [email protected].

If you’ve got outdoor weekend activities you’d like to publicize on Modern Hiker, drop me a line!
