As the snow starts to melt in the mountains, several recreation sites and roads are officially re-opened for the season today after being closed for the winter. The following campgrounds and picnic areas are now ready for your outdoor enjoyment:
Chilao Campground Manzanita Loop
Chilao Picnic Area
Charleton Picnic Area
Eagles Roost Picnic Area
Ridgecrest Picnic Area
Vista Picnic Area
Bandido Campground
Coulter Campground
Meadow Group Campground
The Santa Clara Divide Road between Angeles Christian Camp and the Alder Saddle gate is re-opened as well. Skyline Park at Mount Wilson is scheduled to reopen on April 6th.
Please note that while these areas are in the high country of the San Gabriels, there is still a large area off-limits to hikers as it recovers from the Station Fire. Although there hasn’t been much news about reopenings lately, my Fire Closure section is still up-to-date, so be sure to check that before you head out for a hike this weekend!
