I’m heading out of town for work through next week, which means I’m missing the big REI Used Gear Sale in Santa Monica this Saturday.

The members-only REI Used Gear Sale is one of the most anticipated gear-events at the store, with slightly used gear on sale with deep discounts. If you’re in the market for any big-ticket items like boots or tents, you will want to take time out of your Saturday morning to drop by the REI – just be prepared to get there early, and to potentially deal with a scene like this, only with more facial hair and performance fleeces:

Of course, with the REI dividends arriving in the mail this week, you can also skip the crowds and use the included 20% off coupon at REI.com. I might have to pick up another piece of Icebreaker wool. I fell in love with that stuff when I was in New Zealand – lightweight, wicking, quick-dry AND it goes days without soaking up any outdoorsy body odor … it’s a bit pricey, but I think I’ll be able to replace all my old synthetics with just two or three pieces.

Whether you stay inside or brave the crowds this weekend, good luck and happy gear-hunting!
