Photo Friday – September 5, 2014

You know it, you love it, you’re aware it usually means you only have a few hours left at work before the weekends … it’s Photo Friday.

We’re going to start things off with some beautiful vistas – and the first one is courtesy of new contributor Joseph, based in New Mexico. The Land of Enchantment is high up on my travel list right now, and this shot of Picacho Mountain near Las Cruces is definitely moving it further up the list.

Frequent contributor Jon Bradley returns with a crazy beautiful shot of the sun’s first rays on Yosemite’s North Dome.

A beautiful Sierra sunrise

The Wandering Caveman from Instagram trekked out to Willet Hot Springs near the Sespe River and captured that perfect moment when the sun sets just as your campfire starts to crackle with life.

And A Joyful Procession returns once again with a fantastic series of the shots you don’t see from backpacking trips – those ripped boots, freezing river crossings, slippery trails, and this shot of swarms of flies trying to get into every part of his face while hiking in the Grand Canyon. I highly encourage you all to click through to see every one 🙂

Thanks once again to everyone who submitted and continues to submit such great outdoors shots. Our friends at Sierra Trading Post have graciously agreed to help us out for another month, so everyone who wins a Photo Friday in September will get a code for 30% off their next purchase at the site. Remember, you can enter just by using the hashtag #modernhiker on Twitter or Instagram or by using our Flickr group.
