This week we had some great photos from frequent contributors in the Modern Hiker Flickr Pool – along with some phenomenal work from newcomers. So thank you, everyone who submitted – and thanks for making it really tough to pick four favorites out of the bunch. Good thing I can use some in the future, too!

First up is this beautifully framed panorama of the Tetons from Julie Boyd. I haven’t made it up there yet myself but every time I see an image of that range I just start daydreaming …

Michael McCarty brings us this incredible HDR shot of the changing weather in the Anza-Borrego desert. If you’ve never been caught in a desert downpour, it’s a pretty amazing experience … but you probably only need to do it once.

Sometimes on a hike, we challenge ourselves – and other times when we approach that challenge we stare at it and wonder aloud, “what the heck am I about to do?” Zachary Bailey captured that look perfectly on two climbers about to practice self-arresting down the Baldy Bowl.

"We have to go down that?"

And finally, Nathan and Katherine turned their incredible eye toward Mount Baldy on a backpacking trip to San Bernardino Peak and caught this epic sunset shot.

Thanks again to everyone who submitted photos – the Modern Hiker Flickr Pool is open and always looking for more great images to share with fellow outdoorsy people. So when you’re hiking this weekend bring your camera along and send in your favorites!
