Photo Friday – December 12, 2014

It’s Friday and it’s raining. We hope a). your home hasn’t been flooded or washed away in a mudslide and b). that you’re ready to go out and get your boots muddy this weekend to take advantage of those killer clear skies!

In honor of our winter storm, we’re going to kick things off with some snowy shots – first, Mel Chen reports in from New England’s Mount Pierce, where this is the kind of snow they get at 4,000 feet!

Closer to home, frequent contributor Robfu spent last week hiking through a winter wonderland on Mount San Gorgonio. He’s got a TON of great shots in his feed right now, but we really loved this triumphant summit shot.

Zack was up on Mount Baldy this week and snagged this beautiful and pensive looking portrait – although now if you went up there, this scene would look a lot more wintry!

And finally, another of our favorites Alex chimes in with a beautiful sunset from Trabuco Canyon – which is a nice reminder that even though snow in the mountains is going to be a big draw for many, don’t forget to get some chaparral and desert hikes in, too! The rain activates a lot of our fragrant natives and you’ll get to walk through some of nature’s finest perfume.

Congratulations to this week’s winners – and I hope to see some awesome snow photos next week! Be sure to tag your photos on Twitter or Instagram with #modernhiker or submit them to our Flickr group for a chance to be featured in a future Photo Friday – and for a chance to win a 30% discount from our friends at Sierra Trading Post!
