Photo Friday – August 29, 2014

If you’re thinking about making another pot of poor-quality coffee and spending more time staring out the window than getting work done, then it’s probably time for another Photo Friday.

This week’s winners should give you some great inspiration for hitting the trail on this long weekend.

First up is a highly topical post from Evatronic, who put her Jon Snow figurine atop one of the moving boulders in Death Valley‘s Racetrack Playa. The movement of these rocks have been a mystery for some time, but a paper was published this week where researchers had witnessed the phenomenon in action for the first time ever. Here’s hoping Jon can defend the Racetrack from the wildlings of the North Playa!

Longtime reader Raphael Mazor was in the central coast recently when he caught this juvenile coast horned lizard scurrying across the sand. Always a good reminder to watch where you’re hiking!

The Earthblazers continue their streak of unbelievable outdoor scenes with this hammock shot from a recent camping trip.

Meanwhile, A Joyful Procession is up trekking in Denali right now and while it’s tough to pick just one good shot, I’m really digging this one:

All four winners will be receiving a code for 30% off their next purchase from our friends at Sierra Trading Post. You’ll get the code after September 1st, otherwise you’d only have a few days to use it.

Thanks again for everyone who continues to contribute these amazing shots to our Photo Friday contests! Remember, you can submit your own via our Flickr pool or on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #modernhiker.
