After damage from the Station Fire and our recent onslaught of winter storms, a sizable chunk of the Angeles Crest Highway re-opened to traffic yesterday.
Caltrans has re-opened the Highway from the Angeles Forest Highway to Islip Saddle, allowing access to Mt. Wilson, Newcomb’s Ranch, and Mt. Waterman via Angeles Forest Highway, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road and CA-2. However, the CA-2 from La Canada Flintridge to the Angeles Forest Highway remains closed to traffic. Caltrans hopes to have this stretch of road open next month.
But, you know, it’s Caltrans, so don’t expect that.
If you do head up to the Angeles, remember that most of what you’ll be driving through is still in the Station Fire Burn Area and off limits to hikers.
