For those looking to keep track on the California foliage (yes, we do have some here, thank you) may want to start loading up their packs for a trip soon.

The Inyo National Forest web site says this week (and potentially next week) may be peak foliage for the higher elevations in the Inyo National Forest. Lower elevations like the areas near Bishop still haven’t changed much, but a predicted cold snap this week might ignite a colorful show sooner rather than later.

If you’re looking to plan a trip up north, both California Fall Color and Carol Leigh offer some up to date foliage reports and trail suggestions. I haven’t heard any reports, but there is a beautiful aspen grove in the San Bernardinos as well if you don’t feel like driving too far north.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got the fall fever pretty badly right now. I spent this past week roasting squash seeds and baking paleo pumpkin muffins. I’d be packing up my car for a trip north this weekend if I wasn’t heading home to New England instead! But for those of you who can’t make the trek, here’s a great video posted on California Fall Color of some gorgeous Eastern Sierra scenery:
