In honor of National Public Lands Day, entrance fees will be waived on Saturday, September 24th throughout the Angeles, San Bernardo, Los Padres and Cleveland National Forests. Additional fees for campgrounds and concessions may still apply.
For those looking to actually give something back on National Public Lands Day, there are a few volunteer opportunities this Saturday as well. At 8AM, the Forest Service, National Forest Foundation, and REI are co-sponsoring a family-friendly half-day of trail work in Big Tujunga Canyon, featuring trail maintenance, picnic-area improvement, and recreational dam removal. The work begins at 8AM at the Wildwood Picnic Area on Doske Road off Big Tujunga Canyon Road. Register for the event at the REI web site before you head out.
If the Antelope Valley is more your thing, the Antelope Valley Conservancy is leading a cleanup of the Gerhardy Wildlife Sanctuary. Click here for more information (PDF).
