Poor Eaton Canyon.

This picturesque canyon with the easy in-and-out hike has been getting quite a reputation this summer as high water levels, high temperatures, and easy access from the city combined to make it seem like one of the most dangerous hikes on the planet.

Rescues in the canyon are up way over the annual average this year – and they’re almost always inexperienced day-hikers who climb or take unofficial use-trails far outside the actual Eaton Canyon Trail into the treacherous areas further upstream.

Last week, three more hikers were airlifted out of the canyon after becoming stranded on a 100-foot cliff, but what makes this rescue unique is that the L.A. County Sheriffs Office has posted video of the rescue on YouTube:

And yes, from the looks of it, the hikers were absolutely unprepared to do this sort of rock climbing.
