Attention weekday hikers — you lucky bastards — Santa Anita Canyon Road, which is the only road that leads into the Chantry Flats area of the Angeles National Forest, will be closed for road improvements from May 4th through May 8th. It is scheduled to reopen for that Saturday, May 9th.

If you’re on the Twitter, which is fast approaching critical mass these days, be sure to check out the Angeles National Forest’s brand new feed for the latest information about events and closures in the forest. And of course, don’t forget to sign up for the Modern Hiker Twitter feed, too!

UPDATE

Santa Anita Canyon Road may be closed intermittently BEYOND May 9th as well, or travel may be limited to one lane at a time. For the rest of the month of May, be sure to check the Forest Service’s road closure site, or call the city of Sierra Madre at (626) 355-7135 before you head to Chantry Flats.
