If you’re in the mood to explore some of the city’s public staircases and get yourself a killer workout in the process, you’ll probably want to meet up with Dan Koeppel’s Big Parade LA group this Saturday.
Starting at 8AM at the Music Box Steps in Silver Lake, he’ll lead an intrepid group of urban hikers over 24 miles of trail and up 80 stairways in a single day. In fact, you’ll walk every single staircase in the area surrounded by the 101, Riverside Drive, Hyperion Avenue and Elysian Park. The route never doubles back or repeats the same stairway – and you’re bound to see a part of this neighborhood you haven’t seen before.
The hike will end back at the Music Box Steps with a celebratory feast at El Conquistador.
Dan wants to warn you though – this is not designed for the casual urban hiker – this route will be walked at a brisk pace with no extended rest stops and no designated bail-out areas … but if your legs are up for it, you’ll definitely have a great time and get some killer exercise to boot.
