Are You Qualified to be a Director of Toughness?

Love being outdoors, putting tough gear through even tougher conditions to see how it stands up? Love sharing those experiences online? Then you may be a good candidate for Columbia Sportswear’s Director of Toughness.

Following up on a successful program last year, the Portland-based company is seeking two new adventure-seekers to become this year’s Directors of Toughness. The winners will travel around the globe and putting Columbia gear to the test in pretty much every single climate available on the planet — and this isn’t just a contest. If you are chosen to be a Director of Toughness, you will earn a salary of $39,000 and get all the benefits of being a Columbia employee for nine months (they have a great beach volleyball court outside their Portland offices, but I’m not sure how much time you’ll be spending there).

To give you an idea of what’s in store, here’s a video from the final trip with last year’s Directors.

And, because it’s all about toughness, the application process is also being billed as “The Toughest Interview (to Get To).” Applicants need to register for an interview in a remote location in the Pacific Northwest, East Coast, Canada, and the United Kingdom, where you’ll likely be put through the proverbial wringer (see my experience with Columbia’s Omnigames for an idea of what might be in store for you).

The first location has been revealed – September 15th in the Mount Hood Wilderness in Oregon.

Register now for your chance to become a Director of Toughness.
