A canyon slated for a 24-unit luxury housing development in Pasadena will instead be preserved as a wilderness area.
The 20.6 acres were purchased with residential fees from the city, a self-levied tax from the canyon’s neighbors, and a grant from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.
I haven’t been to this area myself, but any little shred of wilderness we can preserve in the L.A. basin is a victory to be celebrated. Also, with the housing market the way it is right now, the land is probably much more valuable as a park than it is as empty houses or stalled construction.
