We here at Modern Hiker started out our site with the mission of letting the world know more about Southern California’s surprisingly little-known hiking trails … and we’re betting a lot of those people who think the best hiking in SoCal is a dirt path from a parking lot to an In-N-Out register would also be surprised to find out SoCal has some killer snow sports in the winter, too. 
Now – yes – we know we’re still in the midst of a crippling drought. And although the previously super excited forecasts for a massively wet El Niño winter have calmed down a bit, there are still enough signals pointing toward a wet winter this year, which means there’s a decent chance we’ll actually get some white stuff on the mountain tops this season. That’s why we’re happy to announce we’re working with the fine people of Mountain High to give away one Adult Season Pass (valued at $699!) to a lucky Modern Hiker reader! But we’re gonna make things interesting … Modern Hiker began as a way to change the perception of Southern California as a smog-filled strip mall sprawl by showing off all the great hiking and outdoor adventures that lay hidden right in our backyard – and I’d bet a lot of people also have misconceptions about what skiing here looks like, too. So here’s what I’d like you to do: Show us what Snow Sports in Southern California look like. You can share some actual skiing or snowboarding images or video with us, or go for laughs by making fun of what outsiders think of SoCal Skiers. Are they rubbing shoulders with unlicensed likenesses of characters at Hollywood and Highland? Making the best of the drought by tackling a sand dune on the beach instead of the slopes? Testing out gear in the frozen food section at Ralph’s? Enjoying pizza-wedges in a way that’s less embarrassing than my default ski stance?
