Last week, I ran into a few guys giving out samples of their homemade trail mix. The mixes all had different kinds of jerky in them and the flavors sounded interesting so I was happy to give them a go.
The guys were part of a local L.A. company called Meat ‘N’ Nuts and they’re wrapping up their first Kickstarter to try to get some funding to mass produce their first batches of mix – and I can tell you from firsthand experience that all three flavors are pretty dang tasty.
They’re launching with three different flavors – Honey Sriracha Beef Jerky, Cracked Black Pepper Beef Jerky, and Buffalo Style Chicken Jerky. Each flavor of grass-fed or free-range, organic meat is mixed with complimentary dried fruits and nuts. The honey sriracha’s got a nice blend with dried cranberries and the buffalo chicken has dried mango pieces, while the cracked black pepper has more of your straight-ahead traditional flavor.
I was a big fan of the Honey Sriracha flavor, but that’s because I put that stuff on just about everything anyway. All the samples I had were great and I would definitely take this stuff along on the trail for mid-hike fuel. It’s even 100% paleo, too, if you’re into that.
The guys behind the company only have three days left to finish off their Kickstarter and they’re almost there, so please consider tossing a few bucks their way to get some of the first bags of trail mix off their production line. Not only are you helping to support local business and getting tasty food while you’re doing it, but the guys behind the company are all avid hikers, too!
