So the big news — Google Earth 5 is out and ready to rock.
As was expected, oceanic data is the biggest update to this release. You can now seamlessly fly beneath the ocean waves to see detailed, 3-D maps of the ocean floor. What was not quite as expected are the new historical views and touring modes — which will let you see areas as they existed decades ago, as well as record your own videos within Google Earth, complete with narration, audio, and links to outside videos and web pages.
Sadly, I’m stuck at work right now, where they don’t even trust us to run Firefox, let alone Google Earth. But based on this introductory video, I will be spending a lot of time fooling around with this stuff when I get home.
