A cold front and low pressure system are headed for Southern California tonight and will cause our first winter storm of the season through most of Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of Los Angeles County is only expected to get between 1/10th of an inch and 1/3rd of an inch of rain, although local amounts will vary. Additionally, snow levels will drop to around 4500 feet during the day on Friday and down to 4000 feet during Friday night. Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible – and combined with wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, may cause some hazardous winter conditions in the mountains – including the Grapevine.
However, the weather is supposed to be cool and mostly clear on Saturday and Sunday – which makes for EXCELLENT hiking weather! So get ready for some extraordinary views … just make sure to check road conditions before you drive out to the trailhead!
