Plant some trees this weekend or sign up to help rebuild some trails in the Angeles National Forest next weekend!
On this Saturday, October 1st, help restore the Crystal Lake Campground with some tree planting. Volunteers are to meet at the San Gabriel Canyon Environmental Education Center (Hwy 39 past the East Fork Bridge, 500ft past the OHV staging area, on left) at 7:30AM. From there, you’ll load tools and trees into Forest Service trucks and continue onto the Campground for planting.
This is considered “light to medium” work. Planting locations are already marked and the Forest Service will provide tools, instructions, and parking passes. You should bring your own drinking water, snacks, hat, gloves, sunscreen, etc. Work finishes up around 1PM, and the Crystal Lake Cafe will be open at the campground in case you get hungry. The chili dog is supposed to be very tasty.
For more information, contact Esmeralda Bracamonte at the Glendora District Office at 626-335-1251.
If you’re into planning ahead, the Sierra Club will be working on trails in the Angeles on Saturday, October 8th from 9AM to 3PM. Tools and instructions are provided and boots, gloves, and long-sleeved shirts and pants are mandatory. Email Dan Butler or Mary Patterson this week for the destination, meeting time and location.
