This report from the LA Times / KTLA shows Yu’s route was the counter-clockwise route up Mount Baldy, ascending past the Ski Hut and heading down the Devil’s Backbone to the ski lift. Witnesses say they saw her below the summit of Baldy, but there were reports of heavy icing on parts of the trail, too. If she made it to the summit and started down before the storm hit, she may have had to cross the Devil’s Backbone – a short stretch of steep trail that’s fine during good weather but can be deadly if it’s iced over.
Rescue teams are continuing their search efforts and remain optimistic about finding Yu alive.
