The LA Times Daily Travel & Deal Blog just posted its four favorite Southern California weekend getaways, and managed to tailor them for both the budget-conscious and the outdoorsy Angelenos.

There’s great hiking at three of the four destinations, which include Channel Islands National Park and the town of Idyllwild, which is right at the doorstep of Mount San Jacinto State Park. The blog post has links to recommended parks and camp sites, as well as some local tips for travelers – it’s a nice little spot to get an idea for your next free weekend.
