The city of La Canada Flintridge, your most likely entrance to the Angeles National Forest if you’re coming from Los Angeles, is almost finished constructing a system of trails that completely encircles the city limits.
A brand new half-mile section of the Descanso Trail will open to hikers, bikers, and equestrians on Saturday morning at 11AM, bringing the city one step closer to completing the 12-15 mile loop system. The trail begins near the Descanso Gardens and climbs toward a fire road that links to trails leading to Cherry Canyon and Pasadena.
Yeah, it’s short. But how often do you get the chance to be one of the very first hikers on a trail? Not often, I’d bet.
There’s a short dedication ceremony just outside the trailhead, at 1418 Descanso Drive in La Canada Flintridge. Be there, or be hiking somewhere else!
