If you want to do some hiking this Pre-Thanksgiving weekend, but maybe want to try something a little different than your usual wilderness tromp, you may want to consider tagging along on the 2008 Great L.A. Walk.
In the third annual march across the city (or at least the west side of the city), a group of urban hikers will walk from downtown to the ocean, 18 miles along Santa Monica Boulevard (and a few other streets in the beginning).
There are no fees and no Greater Purpose — the organizer just started doing these as a way to mark his 10th anniversary in L.A., and the idea started to catch on among other walking-friendly types.
For a contact, route maps, and other sorts of info and FAQs, hit up the Great LA Walk web site … then get out there and enjoy your city!
