Tomorrow, Saturday June 6th, is National Trails Day, an annual celebration and volunteering drive organized by the American Hiking Society and other outdoor groups and retailers as a way to draw attention to and work on preserving our wild spaces.
If you’re interested in volunteering, there are plenty of opportunities in southern California, from Griffith Park to the Circle X Ranch in Malibu to Palos Verdes and Laguna Beach. Check out this list to find out what’s in your neighborhood, then get out there and give something back to the trails.
And remember, you don’t have to confine all your volunteering efforts to one day a year – most of these groups do trail maintenance work year-round … so grab some pamphlets while you’re out there!
