Effective Sunday, May 17th, the Angeles National Forest will raise the Fire Danger Level from Moderate to High, due mainly to the increasing temperatures and visitation as we edge closer to the summer season.

There are no new restrictions or closures as a result of this new level of fire danger — open wood and charcoal fires are only permitted in designated areas of developed camp sites, and gas stoves are allowed in non-developed camp sites with a valid California Campfire Permit.

The 2009 fire season is predicted to be about the same as last year’s – which, you’ll remember, was pretty nasty at times. For the most up-to-date information on wildfires in the area, be sure to check the National Interagency Fire Center and the California Fire Season update page.
