It’s the end of another work week, which means we’re all itching to find a new trail, lace up our boots, and hit the trails.
Fortunately for Southern California, it looks like we’re going to get a little rain over the next few days. That doesn’t mean you can’t go hiking, it just means you get to dig that winter / rain gear out of the closet and put it to good use, right?!
We’ll start off this week’s stormy Photo Friday with this shot from Stephanie, capturing the clouds rolling into the San Gabriels from near Wrightwood. Anyone who’s spent enough time in the mountains (or climbed uphill to escape the June Gloom) knows exactly how magical these scenes can be.
Seth was up near Mount Islip recently and got caught in some snowfall on his way to the summit – but the snow broke briefly enough to provide a beautiful view of Mount Lewis.
Julie was also up in the San Gabriels for some rain, followed by snow. While it may have made the hike slightly more difficult, but it did provide some beautiful wintry views like this one.
And finally, Sonja snapped this selfie on a trail run on the PCT as a storm started to roll in. After your safety needs are taken care of, it’s all mental from there on out.
For being featured in this week’s Photo Friday, everyone will get a discount code from our good friends at Sierra Trading Post. Get your photos featured on Modern Hiker by tagging them with #modernhiker on Instagram or by adding them to our Flickr Group.
Remember that next week, Kurgo is sponsoring our Photo Friday and giving away some awesome dog backpacks to our winners, so get your dog hiking shots up there for us to look through – and don’t forget to enter their $5,000 sponsorship contest, either. If Modern Hiker readers get into the finalists, we’ll be sure to cheer you on!
