Get out your GPS receivers, smartphones, and topo maps – because the fine folks at Geocaching.com are making the month of August extra exciting for satellite-based treasure hunters.

In a promotion they’re calling 31 Days of Geocaching, Geocaching.com will award all of their members a free digital souvenir for each day in August they find a geocache in the field. In addition, three participants chosen at random will win a free year of premium membership at Geocaching.com and a prize package worth more than $500 including outdoor goodies from companies like Mountainsmith, Camp Chef, Greenlayer, KOR and others. The three winners will be drawn and notified in early September. In the meantime, you can share stories or photos of your August finds on Twitter with @GoGeocaching using #GearUpForGeocaching or connect with Geocaching.com on Facebook.

There are almost one million registered geocaches in the United States and more than two million worldwide – so there are plenty of places to explore!
