Nature For All’s Leadership Academy is Open

The nature-based nonprofit Nature for All has officially opened up applications for their Winter/Spring 2020 cohort for its Leadership Academy Program.

The Leadership Academy is a hands-on training program that teaches people how to create, build, and organize their own outdoor-focused projects to advocate and care for our public lands in the Los Angeles basin. Participants are taught how to apply for funding for outdoor projects, then manage and execute their ideas within their communities. To date, they’ve launched more than 90 projects around Los Angeles and have even traveled to Washington, D.C. to lobby congress on behalf of those projects. More than 20% of graduates have gone on to careers in the environmental and public lands professions, and honestly — every single person I’ve met who’s graduated from the Leadership Academy has been incredibly inspiring and just plain awesome.

You can also see a list of successful past projects on this site, which include the Convert-A-Can program, local hiking groups in underserved communities, and even elections to city councils!

The class / meeting schedule and application are posted on their website, and they’ll be taking applications through December 13, 2019. Head on over, good luck, and tell ’em Modern Hiker sent ya. I can’t wait to see what projects come out of this cohort!

Full disclosure: I am an unpaid member of the advisory board for Nature for All.
